Coming to a theatre near you, Darryl Reuben Hall's FRAT HOUSE has played the 1900-seat venue Florida Theatre in Jacksonville, FL; Bethune-Cookman University, the University of Florida, and Stage Aurora Theatrical Company in Jacksonville.
SYNOPSIS ACT I
It’s a Sunday Morning service that gets the day started with a powerful gospel opening to PRAISE HIM (Written by Melba Moore). Pastor Waller preaches ‘The Parable of the Prodigal Son’ as his son Thomas prepares to leave home along with his lifetime best bud M. C. to attend college at HBCU. Pastor Waller gives his son, Thomas, his inheritance.
College life is all the better and brighter on The Yard with the Rap ‘SHOW ME WHERE THE PARTY AT’. Thomas and M. C. arrive at HBCU and are astonished with college life! The Yard is filled with vibrant characters, senior class Eta Sorority sisters, the Police Officer, President Johns (President of HBCU) and students, the HBCU Administration Staff and the Phi Phi Phi Fraternity make quite an entrance with Stepping and Chanting. Thomas meets the girl of his life, Kathy, and pledges to join Phi against his father’s advice.
Thomas excels in his academics and begins to get caught up in the traps of college life. He begins to spend his inheritance on fancy clothes, jewelry/ bling, and parties til the sun comes up. He is behind in his academics and disrespects his Phi Line Brothers, Kathy, and Pastor Waller (his dad). His world comes crashing down at the 70s Soul HOUSE PAR.
ACT 2
WHAT A FRIEND WE HAVE IN JESUS (Arranged by Melba Moore) opens Act 2 The funeral is that of M. C.’s beloved Grandmother and Thomas is a no-show as M. C. sings his grandmother’s favorite song IT IS WELL. Thomas at this point has become completely overwhelmed with the misspending of his inheritance and he is being isolated from his closest of friends. His is belligerent and disrespects his father, Pastor Waller, who has unknowingly made a visit to the campus. Thomas is arrested and comes to his senses in the moving AMAZING GRACE. All ends well as Thomas has repented and finds himself in God and in the favor of his father.
